Client: Outvio
Industry: eCommerce / Logistics SaaS
Headquarters: Tallinn, Estonia 🇪🇪
Year of Collaboration: 2021
Focus Areas: Funding Announcement PR

Outvio came to Black Unicorn PR with a single, well-defined objective: make their first-ever institutional funding round count. Three years of bootstrapping, 500% revenue growth in 2020, and a product that was genuinely closing a gap in the European e-commerce market. The story was there. Our job was to get it to the right people, in the right places, and make it land.

The company

Founded in Tallinn in 2018, Outvio had spent three years building something genuinely differentiated in the logistics SaaS space. Their platform gave online retailers of any size — from growing independents to large merchants processing tens of thousands of orders a month — the tools to manage everything that happens after the customer clicks “buy.” Shipping automation, real-time tracking, branded customer communications, and a self-service returns portal: all in one place, all customisable, and all designed to replicate the kind of post-purchase experience only the Amazons of the world had previously been able to offer.

The numbers told the story. More than 88% of consumers say it’s very important that retailers communicate proactively at every stage of fulfilment, and the majority of online stores simply weren’t equipped to do it. Outvio was. With proven traction in Spain and Estonia, and revenue growing at over 500% year-on-year without a single euro of outside investment, the company was ready to scale.

The objective

Outvio had closed a $3 million seed round led by Change Ventures, with participation from TMT Investments (London), Fresco Capital (San Francisco), and Lemonade Stand (Tallinn), alongside notable angels including James Berdigans (Printify) and Kristjan Vilosius (Katana MRP). It was the startup’s first institutional round, and one of the largest first rounds raised by an Estonian startup in years.

The mandate was to translate that into a media moment: anchor the announcement with a flagship exclusive, then drive the story outward across European and specialist press to reach the audiences that mattered most to Outvio’s expansion ambitions.

The approach

For a B2B SaaS startup announcing its first institutional round, the hierarchy of coverage is everything. A strong exclusive in the right outlet sets the tone for all that follows- it signals to investors, potential customers, and future hires that this is a company worth paying attention to.

We secured an exclusive with Mike Butcher at TechCrunch. The pitch was clear in principle, but the framing mattered: this wasn’t simply a startup raising money. It was the moment online retail finally had a tool that could close the post-purchase gap, an Amazon-level customer experience, available to any size merchant, for less than the cost of a gym membership.

The results

More than 20 unique pieces of coverage across 7 languages and multiple continents, tracked via Muck Rack with a combined monthly unique visitor reach of over 811 million (🧂).

The anchor placement landed exactly where it needed to:

TechCrunch — Exclusive by Mike Butcher: “White-label SaaS shipping startup Outvio closes $3M round led by Change Ventures”.

Then a bonus that’s never guaranteed: Alex Wilhelm selected Outvio for his Daily Crunch summary.

From there, coverage spread to the right regional and specialist audiences:
